This was sleeper information from E3 as it wasn't something being promoted at the actual Sega booth.

Just ignore the Innex booth fellow's comments about the Genesis being 32-bit, it was 16-bit except when the 32X add-on was attached. Aside from that I'm going to assume that he was correct in saying these new units have 64-bit Processors driving them.
Sega has once again liscensed out their Genesis/Mega Drive technology to be remade by another third-party company. This time that company is an unknown named Innex. There are two Genesis remakes ststed to be available for purchase at the end of this month (July 2009). A console and a handheld unit. If you watch/listen to the entire video though you'll discover that these aren't simple remakes, but rather they are more technically advanced backwards compatible units that have new exclusive games already in development. So rather than being a model 4 class of Genesis it would be more correct to call them Genesis 2.
The console is named "Sega Genesis Firebox. From what can be seen of it in the video it appears to be physically smaller than the Majesco-made model 3 Genesis. It features two controller ports and 20 built-in liscensed classic Sega Genesis titles.
The handheld is named Sega Genesis RetroGen. Think of it as a Nomad Advanced. It's physically about the same size as the Sega Nomad without the battery pack attached. It carries all of the features of the original Sega Nomad except for a controller port for a second player. Features a superior LCD screen to the Nomad and a built-in Lithium Ion battery that can be recharged by plugging in the included USB cable or AC USB charger adaptor.
And best of all... Both of these units are region free! They will play Genesis and Mega Drive games from any region!
New games in development for these system will have the option of being distributed on normal game cartridges or through digital distribution. There will be a Genesis Cartridge to SD memory card adapter available to load digitally distributed games on.
